Sterling
has developed an extensive line of trap nets for commercial
fishing and biological research. The design of the trap, through
different mesh sizes of the net, leader and wing arrangements,
can be tailored to target specific species of fish. Sterling
has developed over 462 unique, effective designs of trap nets
for various specific uses. Shown below are some of our more
popular models Remember, Sterling is happy to design custom

PRICES:
It has been our experience that each user has slightly different
requirements for these nets, particularly in mesh size,
lengths of wings and leader, quantity to be ordered at one
time and time required for delivery. All these variables
affect price. For
a firm price quotation, please contact Sterling stating
your requirements. Upon review, we will give you a firm
quote. We can also give you detailed specifications and
prices for the designs on these pages.
ALUMINUM
FRAMES: We recommend aluminum frames because of their
long life wear and light weight in field use. These nets
can also be modified for steel bar or PVC to gain strength
or reduce cost. Note:
all nets are hung inside the frames or hoops to protect
them from wearing and abrasion.

This
net is most efficient when fished in still lake waters.
Setting the net is easy using four anchor points.
It is the tension and float lead lines that hold the
net in place. Similar to the Pennsylvania without
frames. Treated - ready to fish.

in tidal waters. |

length.
Leader: Usually 100' x 4' or as required.

This
net is similar to a standard hoop net but with a much
improved entrance. In addition to the two hoop throats,
there is an additional vertical front heart. Two 4'
x 4' 3/4" diameter aluminum frames, sometimes
6' wide, with a center brace enable the wings and
leader to meet at the second center brace and form
a narrow vertical 4' slit opening for the entire height
at the frame. 5 galvanized steel hoops 36" in
diameter.

One
of our most popular designs. The mouth is lashed to
the body and is easily detached for the purpose of rotating
the body. This permits the OFFSET Throats to fish equally
well in shallow or deep water, depending upon the stream
level. This design is used in many tidal situations. |
|
| |
Body:
Overall length 15' on 5 2 1/2' square aluminum frames.
Wings: Two 4' x 25'
Netting: Usually 1/2" or 1" square
mesh.
Throats: Three at first three frames - 9"
x 6" square offset, 18" trail.

| The
Pennsylvania is one of Sterling's most efficient fish
catching styles. The aluminum frame develops a rigid
net body that maximizes maze capacity in moving waters.
The net has a vertical funnel slit leading into the
first heart. The net is designed to direct the fish
into the second heart and then through a standard 8"
square (adjustable) opening into the trap. |
 |
Body:
Overall
length 11' including the hood and foot of the first heart.
Wings: Two 4' x 25'
Leader: Can be any length.

Frames: Optional 4" x 6" aluminum first heart
opening frame and second frame.

This
design incorporates two variations on other nets. The bottom
of the wings have skirts that lay flat on the bottom to prevent
critters from swimming under. The other variation is an upward
floating bonnet that further directs the fish into the maze. |

This
is a modified and less expensive trap net which is a
hybrid between a standard hoop net and a square Maine
Fyke Net. There is no foot or hood. This net is an example
of a design created for specific use of sampling in
shallow, moving water. |

|
| |
Body:
Overall length: 11'
Wings: Usually wide enough to block all
fish and direct them in.
Netting: 1 1/2" stretched mesh.
Frames: One 4' x 4' square aluminum and five 3' diameter

| Special
Small Mesh Fyke Nets |
|
| |
In
addition to the net sizes listed in the specifications on
these pages, Sterling also constructs these Fyke Nets using
small mesh netting in the body and larger meshes in the wings
and leaders. The most common nettings are 1/8" DELTA,
5/16" DELTA and 1/4" ATLAS. |
